Sustainability-Stories from 3A Composites: Harnessing the power of the sun
Climate change is a global problem that affects us all. That is why it is important to us as a company to reduce our energy consumption wherever possible and to use renewable energies to reduce greenhouse gases.
With the installation of 744 photovoltaic modules on the roof of our production site in Spain, we have taken another step towards reducing our carbon footprint. Approximately 540,000 kWh are generated by the installation every year and used directly for the production of our CRYLUX® acrylic glass sheets. This avoids 128 tons of CO2 every year which is roughly equivalent to the annual consumption of 10 households!
The initial spark for the project came both from our goal to have our own CO2-free energy source and from the rising energy costs. Photovoltaic panels were the obvious solution, as our production site in Montcada is in a region with many sunny days per year.
The photovoltaic panels covers 24 % of our electricity needs, and the rest also comes from renewable energies – in this case solar, wind and hydraulic power.
