Patrón Tequila turns heads at Melbourne Airport with striking KAPA®plast skull

A bold concept brought to life
When Bacardi Global Travel Retail set out to create a standout in-terminal experience at Melbourne Airport, they needed a showpiece that reflected their bold, premium image. The creative idea originated directly from the client and was developed by Big Bad Wolf (London) design agency and industrial design made in conjunction with Art & Soul Creations.

Leigh Russell took the concept and transformed it into a dramatic 3D skull – a symbol that celebrates Día de los Muertos, a traditional Mexican holiday honouring the dead. However, executing the complex shape and finish required a material with specific, high-performance characteristics.

The material that made it possible: KAPA®plast
After testing possibilities, KAPA®plast 19mm stood out as the only material suited for the challenge. Its combination of lightweight structure, rigid foam core, and smooth, printable surface made it ideal for sculptural work – especially in high-traffic environments like an international airport.

Flawless print, maximum impact
The final piece was printed using HP Latex technology, delivering high-resolution graphics that were both vivid and durable. The skull didn’t just grab attention – it owned the space.

Travelers stopped. The brand shone. And the Patrón team couldn’t have been happier with the outcome.

The Patrón skull was more than just a display – it was a fusion of design innovation and material performance. For the team at Art & Soul Creations, it was an exciting project to be part of, and a perfect example of how the right material can bring a creative vision to life.
