Light therapy with LUMEX® G at Paris metro station
XXL Light Therapy is a newly commissioned installation by FRENCH LIGHT, consisting of six LUMEX® G light totems; placed at one of the largest vaulted underground stations in the world, Auber Metro Station in Paris.
Like luminous trees, these totems light up the station by playing on the perspective of its space. The colours slowly change by the programming and contrast with the very intense rhythm of the metro station users. Close to light therapy, this light animation diversifies the days with impressive colour variations.
To complete this project for the public transport operator RATP, 30 sheets of LUMEX® G 8mm and about 50 sheets of LUMEX® G 2mm were processed. Firstly, 2 mm sheets were screen printed and thermoformed by Plastilex. Then, they were assembled to LUMEX® G 8mm sheets and curved by A3PLAST. Backlit with LEDs, PET sheets were finally fixed to the metal construction. The technical development and programming of light totems were carried out by FRENCH LIGHT.
The Auber Station installation is a great example of LUMEX® G material performance. LUMEX® G sheets feature enhanced thermoforming capabilities as they do not crystallize. LUMEX G sheets are flame retardant rated "difficult-to-ignite" (fire behaviour according to EN 13501-1: B-s1, d0), referenced by RATP (test report according to standard NF F 16-101), excellent to print with UV curing inks and show very high impact resistance. Constructions built from LUMEX® G are meant for the long-term service and will be pleasing to the eye for many years.
Next time in Paris, visit the Auber station and see for yourself the strong artistic piece crafted from our material.
