Embarking on the LCA journey
In response to the increasing demand for environmental data we carried out a comprehensive life cycle assessment using the Ecochain Helix software. The aim was to provide reliable information about the GWI (global warming impact) for our main products.
Ecochain specialists used their experience and knowledge to support us in this venture.
Using existing data sources
As an ISO 14001 compliant environmental management system is in place at most of our manufacturing sites, our data collection process has become seamless. Annual updates from this system, covering energy, water and material consumption, waste recycling and emissions are integrated into Helix to provide site and product specific LCA results.
The assessment methodology was aligned with European construction EPDs and LCAs by using EN 15804 as the reference standard.
Outcomes and ongoing commitments
The project to date has covered assessments of our main products. The global warming potential (GWP) results recorded by the LCAs will be included in our updated FIVE-DOT-MISSION product rating.
The LCA is also instrumental in monitoring our Scope 1 and 2 energy consumption and water use, providing a comprehensive view of our own environmental impact. By leveraging LCA, we can demonstrate effectively the progress made in reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
In addition, the LCA process highlights raw materials as a significant impact hotspot, underscoring the importance of sustainable sourcing practices and enhanced use of recycled or bio-based materials.
